This is my example of the Japanese Navy Type 1 (Model 2) Magnetic Compass produced by Tokyo Koku Keiki. This was an improved version of the Type 0 Model one and was used in various aircraft including the Nakajima C6N-1 Saiun 彩雲 (Iridescent Cloud) “Myrt”. This example is a little different than others I have as it is still mounted in the original “transit plate” with compass deviation plate. This would be sent from the factory like this and then taken off once to the location and installed into the aircraft, with the plate. You don’t come across these that often with the original transit plates, however there is an example on page -171- of Japanese Aircraft Interiors 1940-1945 by Robert C. Mikesh.
