This is my example of the Japanese Army Type 1 (Model 2) Compass produced by Tokyo Koku Keiki. This early magnetic compass type was used in various IJAAF aircraft including the Mitsubishi Ki-21 九七式重爆撃機 (Type 97 Heavy Bomber) “Sally” and various other early IJAAF transport aircraft. This is a fair example, with some slight damage and missing spring from the left end cap of the lightning device. This compass was usually mounted central on the very top of the instrument panel dash on these early bombers. Note the springs (not unlike the newer vertical compass types had) for suspension during turbulent flight. The glass has two very minor chips, put overall not a bad example. A lot of these I tend to see have suffered extreme corrosion and are not in very good shape at all. This example will go with my other random gauges not being used in particular panels which will all be on display in the future.
